It is to your advantage to have a body of work that looks cohesive and has
been professionally photographed. Slides should be of the highest quality to
ensure the best on-line appearance. WMG is not responsible for inferior
digital reproductions of your work. Even though all personal information is
optional, we advise you to include important data in order to inform
interested parties about you and your artistic development. We have included
the following tips to help you with your artist statement and other
written materials.
Contact Information
Either your own name, address and phone, (or just your name and email address)
and any other web pages, or your designated agent, or Woman Made Gallery.
Education
any art education, degrees, majors or minors plus any honors, fellowships etc.
Work Experience
Only list work that has to do with your art, like teaching, gallery
experience etc.
Artist's Statement
The artist statement should be written by yourself. Write simple and clear
sentences from 50-200 words. Don't be your own critic and describe your
artwork in colorful phrases. Your artwork should speak for itself and
doesn't need any sales pitch. Much more interesting is why you do your art
and what motivates you or what techniques you are using.
Selected Exhibitions
Start with your most recent exhibition first and list the oldest last. If
you have not yet exhibited all you need is an artist statement.
If you have exhibited a lot and for many years, be selective and just list
the most important shows. You may also categorize your shows under: "Select
Group Shows" and "Solo Shows" or by years. Mention names of important
curators and if you won any awards or purchase prizes.
Publications
Any sources for publications related to your artistic career/work.
Bibliography
Any articles written about you and your art.
Affiliations
List organizations you are affiliated with or have memberships with.
Artist Gallery
From 5-15 images of your work for the BASIC webpage or up to 30 images for the
ADVANCED webpage. Tip: it is more professional to show one of your artworks on
the main page instead of a photograph of yourself.
